Badger is an IC component with multiple functionalities. Educators can produce badges in their internal representation as well as, by invoking the :ref:`badgegen` component, in Open Badge format. The internal representation is guided by profiles governing the claims structure. On that basis, badges can be managed and selectively shared by students with potential employers or other institutions. Students can also import Open Badges to upgrade them to the internal representation.

All roles (students, educators, employers) access Badger through an Internet Identity.
